- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 whole onion diced
- 3 garlic cloves crushed
- 2 x 400g cans of whole peeled tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 bunch of fresh basil
Pizza Dough (enough to make 3 pizzas)
- 1.5 cups Self-raising flour + extra for dusting
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- Buffalo Mozzarella
- Olive oil
Prep time 40 minutes
In a medium size saucepan on a low heat, combine your olive oil, onion and garlic and fry for 5 minutes until the onion is fragrant and translucent. Stir your onion and garlic quite frequently to ensure the garlic does not burn. Add your tin tomatoes to the pot with a generous amount of salt and pepper and splash of water and bring to the boil. Turn the heat down and simmer for 30 minutes. Prepare your pizza dough during this time.
Using a whisk, break down the tomatoes. Stir through the basil and give the sauce a taste to make sure all the seasoning is to your liking. You can add in 1 tablespoon of sugar if you like your sauce on the sweeter side. Set your sauce to the side.
Prep time 10 minutes
Add the flour, water, olive oil and a pinch of salt to a food processor and process until a dough forms and is pulling away from the bowl. The dough will be quite sticky. On a lightly floured working surface, place your dough onto it, sprinkle some flour all over the dough and form into a ball shape.
Cut the dough in half or thirds depending on the serving size you require, sprinkle some flour on top and on a lightly floured working surface roll out the dough with a rolling pin roughly 2cm thick and 30cm wide.
Assembling of Pizza
Preheat your oven 160*c (fan forced or 180*c conventional)
In a deep-dish frying pan, cover the bottom of the pan with 1 tablespoon olive oil and place the pizza dough on top. Smear a small amount of sauce onto your dough by using the back of the spoon.
Place toppings of your choice onto the pizza and season with salt and pepper.
On a low heat on the stove top, toast your pizza for 3 minutes and then place into the oven for 10 minutes or until cooked through.
Take the pizza out of the deep-dish frying pan and place onto a plate and finish off with your toppings.
