coffee scrubThe Minimal Waste Mum has provided her low waste DIY gifts for that someone special in your life.

These instructions give you a step-by-step guide to making your own face scrub, without making too much waste!

It’s quick enough to make while you’re waiting for the coffee machine to heat up or the kettle to boil!

Mix 1 tablespoon coffee grounds, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon coconut oil until you have a smooth consistency then spoon into a container or jar. Decorate the jar with stickers or a ribbon to make it extra special!

Use the coffee scrub on face/hands/body next shower – it’s great for exfoliating and each ingredient has benefits for your skin too!

Options:

  • Use fine sugar (brown or caster sugar) for a face scrub, and coarser sugar (raw sugar) for body.
  • Use spent coffee grounds from the coffee machine – but only make a small amount and use it the same day otherwise it can go off. If you want the scrub to keep longer, use new (unused) coffee grounds or allow the spent grounds to dry before mixing everything together.
  • For extra moisturising benefit, add more coconut oil for and allow plenty of time for it to soak into skin before rinsing.
  • Generally, a 1:1:1 ratio of coffee grounds, sugar and coconut oil works well so use this formula to make a smaller (ie, for face) or larger (ie, for body) batch and choose a jar accordingly.
